Event: Dicapella Dizi Ensemble presents "Flutes of the World"

Since our establishment in 2013, this year marked our fifth year anniversary! What better way to celebrate the ensemble's fifth birthday than to invite our friends over for a party!

"Flutes of the World" saw the congregation of the various members of the Flute family, featuring the Chinese Dizi, Western Flute, Japanese Shakuhachi, Indian Bansuri, Irish Tin Whistle, and Chinese Pan Flute, bringing together music from a plethora of cultures and genres!

The Dizi, Tin Whistle, and Pan Flute pieces were performed by our very own members Eugene Ng, Jonathan Tan, and Guan Xian Ong, while our friends Rit Xu, Niranjan Pandian, and consultant Tan Chye Tiong performed the Flute, Bansuri, and Shakuhachi pieces respectively.

Mr Rit Xu is an award-winning Singapore-based Flautist and Composer,  and Mr Niranjan Pandian is an award-winning Singapore-based Indian Classical Flautist.

Mr Tan Chye Tiong is an award-winning musician of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO), the only non-Japanese Asian with the rank Jun Shihan, lecturer, and also a consultant to the Ensemble!

To celebrate the joyous union, Mr Eric Watson, renowned local composer and Composer-in-Residence of the SCO, specially composed for us "The Migration of Birds", a piece featuring all four instruments (Dizi, Flute, Shakuhachi, Bansuri) as soloists with the Dizi Ensemble as accompaniment

It was truly an evening of musical diversity, culture, and exploration, as we took our audience on a brief but melodic trip, flying around the world and soaring across the magical realm of Flute music.
