Jonathan is currently a dizi musician and the Deputy Ensemble Manager of Dicapella, the only dizi ensemble in Singapore.

​Jonathan began learning Dizi at the age of 13 under the tutelage of SCO musician Mr Boo Chin Kiah. During his secondary school years with the Maris Stella High School Chinese Orchestra, he was the Sectional Leader and represented the school to take part in notable events and performances such as the Chinese Orchestra Music Camp organized by MOE in 2003 and 2004, and the SCO’s 2004 National Day Concert ‘Our People, Our Music’. He also participated in the NAC National Chinese Music Competition 2004 and was awarded a Certificate of Merit for the Dizi Solo Intermediate Category.

​During his days in Nanyang Junior College from 2005 to 2006, Jonathan was the Student Conductor and Sectional Leader of the college orchestra, and had led the orchestra for many performances, which included ‘Synergy 2006’ concert and the Lunchtime Concert at the Singapore Conference Hall. In 2005, Jonathan attained Dizi Grade 8 with Distinction in the grading examination jointly organized by China Central Conservatory of Music and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and was subsequently invited to perform at the High Scorers’ Concert.

​Jonathan continued improving upon his performance techniques under SCO musician Mr Lim Sin Yeo in 2009 and successfully attained dizi Diploma with Distinction in the grading examination organized by the National University of Singapore, Centre For the Arts. He was also honored to have the chance to be guided by eminent Dizi maestros, Qu Xiang, Li Zhen, Choo Boon Chong during their trips to Singapore.
​In 2011, Jonathan took part in the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) Conference and performed as a guest soloist with The Philharmonic Winds (Singapore) which gained acclamations from many other countries. He also staged his first dizi solo concerto, with the Nanyang Technological University Chinese Orchestra (NTUCO) during their annual concert Transient Reminiscence 2011.
​In 2012, Jonathan was honored to perform together on stage with dizi master Lu Chun-ling in the concert “Great Masters of Chinese Music” by Ding Yi Music Company. In the same year, he took part in the 2nd International and Commercial Bank of China – Talent Competition, jointly organized by Lianhe Zaobao and Singapore Huayuan Association, and emerged as champion. Subsequently in later part of the year, Jonathan was also awarded 1st runner-up in the NAC National Chinese Music Competiton 2012 for the Dizi Solo Open Category.
​In 2013, Jonathan represented Singapore Huayuan Association to take part in the 2nd Clan’s Youth Got Talent competition organized by Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Association (SFCCA) and clinched the 1st runner up award. In the same year, he was invited by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) as guest musician for public concerts.
​Jonathan is also an alumnus of the Singapore Youth Chinese Orchestra (SYCO), and is actively performing, educating and promoting interest of Dizi performance.
